Inside ATS

Library

The ATS Library provides a fine resource for seminary study and is an integral part of the total seminary program. Currently, it contains 44,502 volumes of books totaling 34,171 titles. The library has a collection of periodicals, including an online subscription to the ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials, and the Religion and Philosophy Collection of EBSCO. For its non-print collection, the library holds a substantial number of slides, kits, maps, tapes, audio/video tapes, CDs and DVDs.

The library also has special collections—the Islamic Studies Collection/The Florentino de Jesus, Sr. Memorial Islamic Library; the Mephibosheth Collection; andthe Filipiniana and Theses collections.

Islamic Studies Collection. Donated by Dr. Phil Parshall, author of several books on Muslim ministry and himself a long-time missionary to Asian Muslim countries, this personal collection of 2,000 books on Islamic studies is also called “The Florentino de Jesus Sr. Memorial Islamic Library” in honor of Rev. Florentino de Jesus, Sr. who devoted years of his life in reaching the Muslims for Christ.

 Mephibosheth Collection. This collection on disability studies started as a donation from the personal library of Dr. Amanda Shao Tan.

Books are classified under the Library of Congress classification scheme. Bibliographic records can be accessed through an online public access catalog that uses the ATHENA program.
The library is open from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Mondays to Fridays; and from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Saturdays. It is closed during Chapel (Wednesdays, 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.) and during ATS Student Association (ATSSA) meetings.

Campus Bookstore
The Bookstore is open from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. On occasions, special discount prices are offered on reference books andselected titles.

Chapel
Throughout the semester, ATS students, faculty, and staff meet every Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. for corporate worship. Chapel is voluntary, but each one is urged to attend for personal and mutual edification.

Chaplain & the Spiritual Formation Program
Spiritual formation is a major aspect of seminary life, along with growth in theological understanding and the development of ministerial skills. Spiritual formation has both a divine redemptive and a humanministerial side. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to sanctify and redeem all aspects of a believer’s life, and to bring a believer in conformity to the image of Christ. It is also the service of mature, gifted, and trained Christians to provideguidance and support to individuals and groups so that they mayexperience the presence of God and discern His will for their lives.

The spiritual formation program at ATS seeks to:

1. Guide students toward greater self-understanding and awareness.
2. Inculcate effective habits of spiritual discipline informed by a sound theology of spirituality and characterized by sensitivity to students’ needs and cultural contexts.
3. Provide models for spiritual maturity that demonstrate a Christ-directed spirituality,which students can practice and pass on to those they minister.
4. Encourage the actual practice of such disciplines through care groups, chapel, retreats, and guided meditative sessions.
5. Provide counseling services for students, including entrance and exit counseling.

Counseling Center
The ATS Counseling Center promotes the personal growth of students and clients by:

• Serving as a learning laboratoryfor faculty and students of Counseling, where students can observe and process, under supervision, actual or simulated counseling sessions, andfaculty members can supervise counseling cases. The laboratory alsoserves as a venue forexploring innovative approaches to counseling.
• Offeringcounseling and psychotherapy on problems such as substance abuse and drug addiction; depression and anxiety; sleep and eating disorders;personality, relationship, sexual, and other problems.

The Center is managed by experienced professionals trainedin various disciplines and traditions, who are also Christian leaders in professional groups, churches and religious communities, andhave long experience of teaching on counseling and effective Christian livingin the church, Bible school or seminary.

International Student Services Office
TheATS, through the International Student Services Office (ISSO), recognizes the special needs of international students and is committed to helping each student receive the maximum benefit of a graduate-level education. The ISSO assists international students in the entire process of enrollment and matriculation at the ATS, including finding housing and schooling for children, providing orientation to life in the Philippines, especially Metro Manila, and awarding scholarships to eligible and qualified students. Prospective international students are advised to contact the ISSO for important information on enrollment, immigration procedures, and documentation before arrival in the Philippines.

Students accepted into the program are provided assistance in immigration and related legal matters. At present, only the 9-g (missionary) visa is processed for ATS students.

Students are to submit all application forms, transcripts, references, testimonies, medical certificates, etc. before leaving their home country (see separate notes on entrance requirements and TOEFL requirements). Students are strongly advised tophotocopy and keep at least 3 copies of important documents (passport, travel documents, all application forms, transcript, etc.) before submitting the original.

Canteen
The ATS canteen serves a variety of reasonably priced meals and is open everyday except Sundays and holidays
